Applications for Instructor Positions for 2023 Sailing Season Now Being Accepted
Learn to sail right here on our Great South Bay! We offer a robust sailing program that teaches sailing skills in a safe and fun environment. Classes are taught by our certified experienced sailing instructors.
The season runs 7 weeks from June 28th - Aug 12th followed by FUN WEEK from August 15th – 17th which offers fun activities on the bay and at the clubhouse.
As space permits, non-member sailors are welcome to participate in the program and related activities for one season, and then the family is invited to apply for membership in the BSYC.
What better way to kick-off the summer than to come down to the club to enroll yourself, or your children in our wonderful Sailing Instruction Program. This event is multi-purpose -- marking the unofficial opening of the Club’s summer season. It is an opportunity for the membership to meet the Sailing Instruction Committee, the Instructors, learn what it is all about, what is expected of you, and to ask questions. The JYC hosts this, and for a minimal charge, a pasta dinner is served. At this time elections will be held for the following JYC positions: Commodore, Vice Commodore, Rear Commodore, Secretary, and Treasurer. The JYC Advisor must approve all elected officers and will meet with the officers during the season to plan member activities.
Hosted by the Awards and Prizes Chairperson, this is an evening when trophies and certificates are presented to all the children who participated in the sailing instruction program. See the Bay Shore Yacht Club Yearbook for a complete list of all awards presented. Is it a wonderful opportunity to applaud our children for a job well done, and all are strongly encouraged to attend. Proper attire is requested for this memorable evening.
Every Wednesday afternoon around 2:00 pm. Children enrolled in the sailing program may participate in these races with the approval of the sailing instructors. The sailing instructors supervise the races and awards are presented at the Sailing Awards Dinner for various boat class winners. This coincides with Family Night, where parents and other club members bring their dinner down to the Club, enjoy the races and each other’s company, with dessert and coffee provided by the JYC.
An all-time favorite, the Huck Finn Race is open to all children in the Bay Shore Yacht Club, and is sponsored by the JYC. Children are encouraged to make a raft and race each other inside the Yacht Club Basin. Specific rules and regulations for construction and participation will be made available in a flyer and posted in the JYC. A Bar-B-Q follows the races with fun prizes being awarded in many categories.
